Spider Webs in Columbus Ohio

Most of us shriek when we see or walk into spider web.
Before you destroy a web think about engineering and silk of which it is made.

Spiders can make up to seven different kinds of silk.
Silk turns from liquid to solid when it hits the air.
Silk has a tensile strength stronger than steel at the same density.
Silk has inspired fibers like Kevlar used in bullet proof vests.
Silk has biomedical applications like silk scaffolding for nerve regeneration and super fine medical sutures.

Spider Webs In Columbus Ohio are taking over

Spider webs between street lights?
If you live near a city like Columbus Ohio, you may have gotten to witness this phenomenon.
They are taking over light polls all over cities.
Is there Giant Spider or Spider Man attacking Columbus Ohio?

This is perfect decoration as we approach Halloween however this creeps out most of people.
According to Wizzie Brown, an entomologist in the Texas A&M University System, “Spiders are beneficial wherever they land and it is not something to panic over.” Brown also states that, “The spider webs we’re seeing are the result of ballooning and the lack of a breeze to carry the webs. And it’s that time of the year: Fall, she says, is when different types of spiders tend to migrate to cooler temperatures, she says, “tell the spiderlings it’s time to hatch out of the egg. And now they’re stuck, poor things. But it’s just a way for them not to compete with one another. They’re trying to get to a new area.”

Looking at this reminds me of Charlotte laying her eggs from book Charlotte’s web.
It will be a different story if our customers saw this in their basement.

Brown Recluse Spider

We see spiders everywhere but do we think they bite us. Spider bites happen more often than we know.
Just recently a man from Chicago was removing covers for his boat and Brown recluse spider bit him.
It does not hurt right away however mild and intense itching occurs after a few hours.
He goes to sleep and next day his arm has the appearance of a bull’s-eye, with a central blister followed by fever. He went to emergency room and got treated.

Some people have a severe, systemic reaction to brown recluse spider bites, including the rapid destruction of red blood cells and anemia. Children may be at risk for an allergic reaction to the venom. The first thing is to wash off and cool it with ice pack. Apply antibiotic ointment right after. Remember to take spider’s bite more seriously!

Spider Web

To many people spiders are the worse thing they have every seen and cant stand them.  However what people dont know, is spiders can help with getting rid of other pests like fly, mosquitoes, grasshoppers, locusts, cockroaches, as well as aphids.

Spiders can keep your gardens healthy by eating  plant-damaging insects. Some species of garden spiders can create large webs and these webs are located where people are unlikely to walk through them.  These spiders usually not aggressive to people or pets, and will simply sit on their webs and wait for dinner to fly by. Mosquito populations can be reduced drastically in your yard by allowing spiders to remain. This is beneficial to both people and pets, as mosquito bites so annoying and could carry diseases.
